Brent Civic “greenest public building”

brent civic centreBrent Council’s new Civic Centre has received a BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ rating from the Building Research Establishment, making it the UK’s greenest public building.

Its score of 92.55% makes the Civic Centre (pictured under construction) the greenest public office building in the country and the fourth greenest building worldwide out of only ten that have received a BREEAM Outstanding rating.

The council say the building will achieve a 33% reduction in carbon emission with energy consumption, 100% more efficient than similar buildings. The Civic Centre is on schedule to open in the summer of 2013.

In addition to the modern open plan offices for the council and partner employees, the building will house Brent’s flagship library, community facilities, a covered winter garden and an open terrace space with views of Wembley stadium and the surrounding area.
