The Mayor of London has shortlisted the site of Heathrow Airport as a potential location for World Expo 25.
He has also shortlisted Barking Riverside, Meridian Water in Enfield, and the Royal Docks as his team look at plans to bring the event to London in 2025, for the first time in over 150 years. Heathrow would have to close, obviously, for the site to be used as an Expo location.
The Evening Standard reports the potential regeneration opportunities for each area, or a combination of them, would be on the scale seen around the Olympic park.
The Mayor of London wants to see Heathrow closed and redeveloped, and a new hub airport opened in the Thames estuary.
The options for Heathrow will be discussed at Place West London’s half day conference on May 12. See here for more information.
