Birmingham Airport has suggested expansion there would be a good alternative to a third runway at Heathrow.
The Airport, next to the National Exhibition Centre, says that the arrival of HS2 will cut journey times from London by 40 minutes, and make the Airport a credible alternative to expanding Heathrow, reports the BBC.
They base their assertion on a poll where 49% of Londoners said they would consider using Birmingham Airport if and when the rail link is built. However, they make no mention of the study taking in to account the impact of the likely price of the rail fare from London to Birmingham International.
Also, as the BBC notes, work would be required at Birmingham to make the runway suitable for longhaul flights.
