Members of London Councils’ Transport and Environment Committee have elected Ealing Council Leader Julian Bell as chair.
Cllr Bell has been leader of Ealing Council since 2012, and is the member for Greenford Broadway ward. He was elected to the council in 2002.
The committee has control over a range of services including the Parking and Traffic Appeals Service (PATAS), the Parking on Private Land Appeals service (POPLA), the London Lorry Control Scheme, the Freedom Pass and Taxicard.
Cllr Bell, who is a keen cyclist, said: “I am very pleased to have been elected as Chair of London Councils’ Transport and Environment Committee.
“The committee addresses some of the most important issues facing London and I am looking forward to leading TEC’s work in delivering vital services to residents and making a difference to Londoner’s lives.”
TEC aims to ensure London boroughs are heard in the development and implementation of transport and environmental policies generated by government departments, the European Union and the Mayor of London.
The committee consists of a member from each of the 32 boroughs and the City of London, as well as one from TfL.
