Speaking at an NLA On Location event, Chris Kane, the Head of Workplace at the BBC, said they would announce the winning bidder in “a month to six weeks”.
The process of selecting a partner began last year, when the BBC received over 80 expressions of interest. They slimmed that to eleven, and are now thought to be down to a final two, and in the late stages of making the decision.
The redevelopment will be comprehensive, but will of course preserve the listed building, enhancing its role as “kingpin” of the W12 area, as Kane described it. The building is likely to have a range of functions, still including studio operations, but also as a hotel, theatre, commercial base for creative industry companies, and more.
