Barnet proposes two year tax freeze

Barnet Council is proposing to freeze council tax for another two years.

If approved, council tax will be frozen from 2010 to 2015. The council is also proposing to raise council house rents by less than the rate of inflation – by 2.5%.

Councillor Richard Cornelius, Leader of Barnet Council said: “It is very much my view that one of the key ways in which the council can support residents is by letting them keep cash in their pockets.”

The council budget is based on the council successfully fighting a legal challenge on the outsourcing of several back office functions – the “One Barnet” proposals which have provoked significant objections from residents.
