Barnet Football Club is set to leave it’s present Underhill playing base.
The move was announced on the club’s website, and is, say the club, the result of a dispute with Barnet Council. The Barnet Chairman, who issued the statement, is also upset about Saracens Rugby Club’s plans for Barnet Copthall Stadium.
The club say that discussions over extending the lease on the present Underhill stadium have broken down, and that they will now plan to move away during the 2012/13 season.
Council leader, Councillor Richard Cornelius told London24: “We have already offered (Barnet FC) a 15 year extension to the lease at a cost of £7,000 a year. That would (let them run) the ground safely at its current capacity.”
“The club has also been offered a licence for vehicles to use Priory Grove for a nominal fee ‘whilst the club’s Underhill land is used as a football stadium”.
