Barnet Council has moved to a new Committee System of Governance with cross-party committees.
The plans, which came into effect at Annual Council, aim to increase transparency and will involve more Councillors on decisions.
Committees will be made up of cross-party, elected Councillors from across the borough. The Committees will each have a Chairman and decisions will be reached on a majority basis.
Councillor Richard Cornelius, the Leader of the Council said: “By having a cross-party committee system, alternatives can be proposed and debated openly.
“I hope this wider openness will encourage a broader and properly informed debate about the future of the council and the borough.”
The Chairmen or the Environment Committee and the Assets, Regeneration and Growth Committee will be Cllr Dean Cohen and Cllr Richard Cornelius respectively.
