BA has said it will scrap shorthaul flights from Heathrow, and increase longhaul, to provide it with the expansion it needs, if the third runway doesn’t go ahead.
Willie Walsh told the Uxbridge Gazette: “If the Tories don’t want a third runway, we’ll have to cut capacity significantly on European and domestic flights from Heathrow. We need expansion and we can get added growth in long-haul services, which are much more profitable.”
The business benefits, or otherwise, of the third runway will be discussed in a session at the Place West London conference on October 13. See the full programme.
