Ideas for replacing the Hammersmith Flyover with a tunnel are to be presented at a London Festival of Architecture event this month.
The ideas, from a collection of architects based around Hammersmith including Assael Architecture, Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands and Hugh Broughton Architects will be shown at a day-long event in Lyric Square on June 23.
The LFA Event is pitched as “a day for the community around Hammersmith to join with local architects and designers in thinking about the future of Hammersmith when the Flyover reaches the end of its life”.
The team behind the event plan a giant screen showing images of Hammersmith as it was, as it is, and their ideas for what it could become.
The idea first came up in 2008, and resurfaced recently when Nick Botterill, the new leader of Hammersmith & Fulham Council, backed the concept in an interview.
