Wandsworth Council has today proposed a new direct rail service from Waterloo to Heathrow airport.
The proposal – “Airtrack-lite” – is based on the Airtrack scheme, and as LB Wandsworth envisage it, would provide four trains an hour from Waterloo to Terminal 5 with stops at Clapham Junction and Putney, and avoiding the level crossings in Mortlake and Egham which was a key problem with the Airtrack plan.
Half the trains would go via the Hounslow loop, with the others on the Windsor line via Staines. It would need a new Staines station, and new track from Staines to T5.
